Hi, I'm Matt.
Most people know me as Coach Matt.
I work with cheer athletes who are physically capable but mentally stuck, and with parents who feel unsure how to help without making things worse.
Over the years, I've seen the same pattern again and again. An athlete who once loved training suddenly freezes, hesitates, or loses confidence. Skills they could do easily become hard. Fear shows up. Emotions run high. Progress stalls.
What I've learned is this.
Mental blocks and fear are not a lack of effort. They are not attitude. And they are not something an athlete can simply push through.
They are nervous system responses.
My Work
Although I am a tumble coach, I strongly focus on the mental and emotional side of performance. The part that determines whether an athlete can use the skills they already have.
I help athletes:
- Understand why fear shows up
- Regulate emotions and calm their body
- Rebuild trust in themselves
- Create confidence through small, safe steps
I help parents:
- Understand what their child is experiencing
- Respond to fear without adding pressure
- Support confidence in a calm, effective way
My Philosophy
My approach is calm, supportive, and education based. There is no forcing, no hype, and no blame. Progress happens when the body feels safe, not when it feels pressured.
"Progress happens when the body feels safe, not when it feels pressured."
Whether through group programs, one on one coaching, or free parent education, my goal is always the same. To help athletes feel safe in their body again so they can enjoy cheer and perform at their best.
